I learned to draw by just doing still lives: I spent a few years drawing boxes and spheres, then more complex household objects. The objective there was to learn to see the simple structure of objects and, by understanding how to draw simple solids, generate more convincing drawings of things. This is also a great way to learn about rendering shadows, developing a good hatching technique and work on proportions and measurements. I will talk about all of this in future videos.
